Kristi Noem is a significant Republican politician in the United States and has served as the Governor of South Dakota since 2019. Noem has established herself during the COVID-19 pandemic as a national figure in American politics, serving as conservatism’s flame keeper to her supporters and punching bag to some critics. Rising through the political ranks based on her background in agriculture and a history of public service, Noem has been known for her communication prowess, advocacy of conservative ideals and polarizing style of leadership. Early Life and Career
Kristi Lynn Noem in Watertown, South Dakota, born on 30 November 1971 to a family that farms. Noem has frequently discussed her agricultural background, growing up on a ranch as it reflects her attitude toward farming, rural America and economic development issues. Growing up in the American Midwest, she was instilled with a sense of hard work and appreciation for personal independence, as well as community, so it is easy to see how that would shape her political career down the line.
Noem holds a degree in political science from South Dakota State University. Upon graduating, she went home to her family ranch where she became a small-business owner. Many of the agricultural, economic and small business policies she would later promote as a politician stemmed from her experience in the field.
