Cleveland Cavaliers: LeBron and rebuilding for the next era
The Cleveland Cavaliers are a team that is forever tied to one of the greatest basketball players in NBA history, LeBron James. As LeBron became a superstar in the mid-2000s the Cavs made yearly playoff appearances culminating with a 2016 NBA Championship, the first and only title in franchise history. In that time Cleveland transformed from a perennial playoff team once with LeBron to perennial playoff team again only in tandem with LeBron where he was flanked by all stars Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and his own version of the Big Red Machine in Tristan Thompson.
Once LeBron left to go to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018, the Cavaliers went into rebuild mode. After a couple of tough years, the team is starting to emerge with a new wave of talent. New stars like Darius Garland, along with Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, have made the team definitely headed in a better direction than before.
Garland was an All-Star last season and the Cavaliers were in playoff contention again after a lost year during the pandemic that culminated with their first appearance in the playoffs since 2018. The Cavaliers have their sights set on returning to the top of the Eastern Conference, having built a young and promising core.
